Founders & Key scientists

Novartis was created in 1996 through the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz. Throughout the years, Novartis and its predecessor companies have discovered and developed innovative products for patients and consumers worldwide.

On May 11, 2000, at the historic bell-ringing ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Novartis first began the trading of its American Depositary Shares (ADSs) on the NYSE.
