For central nervous system disorders our products cover the following disease areas:

Novartis also has treatments for ophthalmic conditions, most importantly "wet" age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness in people over age 50.


Neuroscience products
Our neuroscience medicines include:*

  • Exelon and Exelon Patch (rivastigmine tartrate) for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and dementia associated with Parkinson's disease
  • Trileptal (oxcarbazepine) for the treatment of epilepsy
  • Stalevo (carbidopa, levodopa and entacapone) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease
  • Extavia, a multiple sclerosis treatment

Ophthalmics products
In ophthalmics, Lucentis (ranibizumab) is a therapy which improves vision in patients with "wet" AMD.*

Neuroscience and ophthalmics development compounds
Novartis has a number of compounds in late-stage development, including therapies for multiple sclerosis, diabetic macular edema and depression.
